Mission

Adventure Autism is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for individuals with autism and their families. We believe families should have access to activities, resources, and experiences where everyone feels welcome, included, and supported.

Our goal is simple:
to help individuals with autism and their families experience more, explore more, and create lasting memories together.

Through community events, family experiences, and supportive resources, Adventure Autism works to connect families with opportunities that celebrate abilities, encourage inclusion, and make life a little more adventurous.

Vision

To inspire a future where every individual with autism can embark on empowering adventures that build confidence, connection, and lifelong success.

Our History

The Higgins Family: Melanie, Kelli, Chris, and Michaela.

Adventure Autism, Inc. was founded by Kelli Higgins, a mother of two daughters diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. While raising her daughters, Kelli and her husband frequently encountered public settings where their children struggled to cope. These situations often caused anxiety not only for the family, but also for bystanders and staff who felt unequipped to help.

Driven by these challenges, Kelli dedicated herself to expanding her knowledge of autism and Indiana’s support network. After several years driving statewide outreach at the Autism Society of Indiana, she stepped into the role of Executive Director at the Autism Community Connection, leading the organization through a period of substantial growth.

Recognizing a widespread need for inclusive community spaces, Kelli drew upon her years of leadership to launch Adventure Autism, Inc. in early 2026. Her vision was simple: to create welcoming environments where families and individuals on the spectrum can explore the world without fear or judgment.

The organization’s flagship program, “Autism on the Go,” focuses on helping parents, caregivers, and individuals on the spectrum navigate everyday situations that are often stressful or overwhelming. Through curated events throughout the year, Adventure Autism, Inc. offers a safe, supportive way to discover new experiences.
